A child, dressed in surgical gown and preparing to receive cochlear implant surgery, drove a mini "convertible" at a cardiovascular hospital in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Nov 5.

The little patient was found to be hearing impaired at the age of six months. The special car was designed to ease children's fears before operation, according to the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. This helps buffer children from anxiety and fear before entering the operation room, and is of great help to guarantee a smooth operation.

"The traditional biomedical mode has transformed into the socio-psycho-biological mode," said Ma Hanxiang, head of anesthesia at the hospital. "We should show respect for our patients and pay more attention to their emotions. Moreover, humanistic care is of great importance to those who are young or critically ill."

The little patient was discharged from the hospital after recovery on Nov 10. One month later, he will go to a professional rehabilitation institution set up by the Ningxia Disabled Person's Federation to receive professional verbal training, specialized for the deaf.

In recent years, the hospital has taken active measures to provide patients with high-quality nursing. Humanistic care has also contributed to reduce side effects caused by anesthesia and operations, both psychological and physical. By doing so, the hospital has earned appreciation among patients, and the doctor-patient relationship has improved greatly.
